One of my fondest childhood memories is our weekly family trip to the local library. And this passion for stories and words has stayed with me throughout my life. As cheesy as it sounds, I love working on products, services and websites that really make a difference to people, helping make their lives easier. Whether it’s turning complex healthcare terminology into words that make sense to people outside of the medical profession for NHS.UK and the NHS App or looking at user journeys and content for brands including Bupa Global and BT.
I was told by a well known PR ‘guru’ it would be a waste of my talent not to work in PR. But throughout my content career I’ve used my networking skills to my advantage. My powers of persuasion have come in handy time and again when dealing with senior stakeholders and managing teams, championing content design and helping them understand why it’s so important.
Likewise my background in journalism has trained me in the art of listening to people, recognising what they need, as opposed to want. And how to speak to users in the tone of voice and language they understand, translating these needs into simple, helpful content.
